Asus : Zenfone 6 will rotate the cameras

What do we see that spring is well and truly arrived ? The new smartphones bloom. We have had this week with the OnePlus 7, here come the Zenfone 6 from Asus ! The two smartphones have one thing in common : their screen does not exhibit any notch or hole, so that the display surface is the largest possible.

But it must fit somewhere on the camera for selfies. Where OnePlus has made the choice of a slide-out drawer, Asus opts for a rotary type mechanism. This allows the passage to save on the photo sensors, since the Zenfone 6 does not require that two (Samsung has made a similar choice for the Galaxy A80, even though the mechanism is a bit different).

The datasheet is that of a high-end smartphone Android : chip Snapdragon 855, GPU Adreno 640, 6 to 8 Gb of RAM (from 64 to 256 Gb of storage). With 5,000 mAh, the battery capacity is impressive : Asus promises a battery life of 2 days (up to 21 hours on Wi-Fi). She will be able to recharge it quickly with the support of Quick Charge 4.0-USB-C. A fingerprint sensor is present on the back, just like a button to launch the Google Assistant (it is customizable).

The screen of 6.4-inch (2 340 x 1 080, ratio of 19.5:9) occupies 92% of the front surface, with borders all fine except at the bottom. The slab is protected by a coating of Gorilla Glass 6. As for the famous photo sensors, they are, respectively, 48 megapixel camera (ƒ/1.49), and 13-megapixel camera (a wide angle for the latter). There is even a mode Super Night for photos the night.

The Flip function Camera (the famous mechanism) is controllable : one can choose the desired angle of tilt from 0 degrees to 180 degrees. The Zenfone 6 runs on Android 9.0, with the overlay ZenUI 6 (moving to Android Q is promised by the manufacturer). The price starts at 499 €, with commercialization expected by mid-June.
