Ile-de-France : buying tickets with a smartphone, this is for back to school !

Until now tested by 3.500 guinea pigs, the service NavigoLab will be open to all in September, announced Friday, Valérie Pécresse, the president of the region Ile-de-France, at the occasion of the exhibition VivaTech. We will be able to back and buy, store and use a T+ ticket, cloud-based (or book) or a pass Navigo from your smartphone to travel on the entire public transport network in the île de france.

The dematerialization of tickets of transport is by road

An opening that is limited to a handful of Android smartphones. The Samsung devices that are compatible are, however, quite numerous : Galaxy A5 2017, A8, A70/A80, S7/S7 Edge, S8/S8+, S9/S9+, A10/S10+/S10e, as well as the Note 8 and 9. This represents a good part of the terminals of Samsung outstanding.

Some Android smartphones equipped with a SIM chip from Orange and Sosh, also support this service Navigo (to find out if his phone is compatible, go to settings about device). The support of this payment system for the network île-de-france requires a smartphone with an NFC chip, but this is not enough, it also requires the integration of a specific technology that allows the SIM card to communicate with the access point.

Manufacturers are working on the adoption of this technology, which is therefore not restricted to Samsung. As to the iPhone, this is yet another story, the NFC from Apple is more closed than elsewhere. Negotiations are still ongoing with the region Ile-de-France to “unlock” the chip. Finally, it is also necessary to download the application Navigo.

And if the battery of the smartphone is empty, don’t panic, the system works even without a battery. As to the total disappearance of the ticket cardboard, it is scheduled next summer.
